Key Stage 4

Key Stage 4 Offer

Our key Stage 4 pupils have access to a broad and balanced curriculum, which is divided into Core subjects, the Preparing for Adult areas of learning outlined in their EHCPs and Community Learning. (See below). This provides our pupils with the opportunity to apply their key skills in a more functional way.   This ensures that they are fully prepared for their next steps in education and continue to prepare for life after Curnow School

Core Curriculum - Maths, English, PSHE/RSE, PD

Community links - Volunteering, Work Experience, Sports/Leisure activities. Jubilee Challenge

PFA Outcomes - Non-Core Curriculum (Science, DT, Computing, Art and Music), Work related learning, Independent living life skills

Core Curriculum

A weighted part of our curriculum still focuses on the Curnow core curriculum.  Wherever possible we provide real life experiences to apply skills learnt in our core areas.   We have daily literacy and numeracy sessions either as stand-alone lessons or embedded within other areas of our curriculum.  In PSHE/RSE we work on individual topic work linked to our bespoke PSHE/RSE curriculum.  Physical Development is woven through our school week as well as throughout the year in community sports.

PFA – Business & Enterprise

Across the year in different termly topics we run a staff café, a supermarket and sell goods prepared in our Garden.  The pupils learn valuable life skills both in lessons and out in the community this allows them to apply the skills they are learning with literacy and maths.

ILS – Independent Living Skills - learning for life

Each term our independent living skills units focus on different topics which are designed to build on our pupil’s independent living skills as they move towards adulthood.  Embedded within these is the learning we are developing from our non-core curriculum which includes both the creative and understanding the world curriculum.
